Integrating psychological insight with spiritual guidance for holistic healing

What Is Spiritual Counseling?

Spiritual counseling is a supportive space where you can explore life’s deeper questions and challenges with a focus on both personal growth and spiritual well-being. Whether you’re searching for meaning, navigating a loss, facing a spiritual awakening, or simply seeking clarity and direction, this work offers a unique opportunity to connect with yourself on a deeper level.

Some clients come with strong religious traditions they want to deepen, while others have no religious background but are curious about spirituality. Whatever your path, spiritual counseling is about honoring your unique experiences and offering guidance through a compassionate and open lens. It combines modern psychological insights with spiritual wisdom to help you find peace, purpose, and balance in your life.

With a PhD in cultural-developmental psychology, my approach to spiritual counseling combines spiritual wisdom with psychological theories. I bring over a decade of experience researching the psychology of religion and spirituality to my spiritual counseling practice, ensuring spiritual insight is supported by psychological science.

While traditional psychological approaches may not always discuss spirituality, it offers effective ways to ease suffering. I bring together these approaches, using psychological methods to support clients’ spiritual concerns.

About Me – Dr Justin Laplante

My passion for spirituality has taken me on a journey through many religious traditions, across six continents, and into over a decade of academic research and teaching, as well as Zen Buddhist practice.

These diverse experiences have given me insight into various spiritual practices and worldviews, along with psychological strategies for personal growth and well-being.

I became a spiritual counselor to help others navigate life’s challenges, blending ancient wisdom with modern science, shaped by my own personal journey.

I hold a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Clark University and a Certificate in Spiritual Counseling from 1Spirit Learning Alliance.

Over the past decade, I have immersed myself in Zen Buddhist practice, including a transformative three-month residency at the Bhavana Society Buddhist Monastery.

I am also an active member of the American Psychological Association’s Division 36, which focuses on Religion and Spirituality. For more details on my academic and teaching background, feel free to explore my Curriculum Vitae.
